** As a reminder, the bylaws committee is composed of volunteers from the former 7th, 8th, and 15th Ward Democratic Organizations who volunteered to compile a set of bylaws for the new 6th Ward Democrats based on the bylaws from the open and independent former 8th and former 15th Democratic ward organizations.


Alderwoman Velázquez 6th Ward Town Hall Meeting - Tuesday, August 29

Alderwoman Velázquez will be holding a Town Hall Meeting this upcoming Tuesday, August 29, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Afghan Community Center & Chamber of Commerce, located at 3611 S. Grand. Childcare is provided. Hope to see you there!



April 4 Election Day

Election Day is upon us! 

Polls are open from 6AM to 7PM on Tuesday.


ENDORSEMENTS

The 6th Ward Democrats have voted to endorse:

  • PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN - Megan Ellyia Green
  • ALDERMAN WARD 6 - Daniela Velázquez
  • PROPOSITION C - CHARTER AMENDMENT - Yes
  • PROPOSITION - ADDITIONAL SALES TAX ON RETAIL SALE OF ADULT USE MARIJUANA - Yes
  • MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION (Choose 2) - Sadie Weiss and Tracy E. Hykes
  • SAINT LOUIS COMMUNITY COLLEGE TRUSTEE IN SUBDISTRICT 2 - Pam Ross


WHERE TO VOTE

You can vote at your assigned polling place or at one of 12 city-wide polling places.

6th Ward assigned polling places:

  • Mann Elementary - 4047 Juniata
  • St. Pius V Church - 3310 S Grand
  • Tower Grove Christian Academy - 4257 Magnolia Ave
  • Missouri School for the Blind - 3867 Magnolia Ave
The closest city-wide polling place is the Missouri School for the Blind at 3867 Magnolia Ave.

If you requested an absentee ballot and have not cast it yet, you can bring it with you to the polling place and you can vote in-person there.


PHOTO ID REQUIRED

A new Missouri law requires specific forms of photo ID to vote.

Permissible forms of ID:

  • Nonexpired Missouri driver’s license or non-driver’s license
  • Nonexpired U.S. passport
  • Nonexpired U.S military ID, including veteran’s card
  • Another photo ID issued by Missouri or the federal government that’s not expired or has expired after Nov. 2, 2020

No longer permissible forms of ID:

  • Student IDs, out-of-state driver’s licenses, pay stubs, utility bills, and postcards from the St. Louis Board of Election Commissioners

If you do not have an acceptable ID, you can vote a provisional ballot on Election Day and it will be counted if  the signature on your provisional ballot matches the signature on file with the Board of Election Commissioners.

If you encounter any problems at the polls, call the nonpartisan Election Protection Hotline —  a project of the Lawyers Committee on Civil Rights. Save this information in your phone so you have it if you or a neighbor need it when you’re at the polls.

Volunteers Needed for April 4 Election

And now that we have our endorsements made, we need help in getting the word out to voters!

Please use our sign up sheet to volunteer.

We have opportunities for handing out sample ballots at the polls, putting up and taking down our Vote Today Signs, and anything else you would like to volunteer for.

April Primary Endorsements

Many thanks to everyone who attended our Candidates Forum and participated in our endorsement vote.

As a reminder, per the rules set at our previous endorsement meeting, our endorsements of Megan Green and Daniela Velázquez will automatically carry over since they won the endorsement votes for the March election. 

Based on the results of our endorsement votes, the 6th Ward Democrats are endorsing the following candidates and propositions for the General Municipal Election on April 4:

Endorsement Voting for April 4 General Election

For those of you eligible to vote for the 6th Ward Democrats Endorsements for the April 4 election, the link to the endorsement ballot can be found here.

Voting closes Sunday, March 26 at NOON

Only votes cast by eligible voters will be counted. Only one ballot per voter will be counted.

To determine your eligibility to vote, please review the criteria on our Membership page.

Also remember that you must have completed a membership application and paid annual dues to the 6th Ward Democrats to be eligible to vote. This can be done online here.

In preparation for the upcoming April 4 election, the 6th Ward Democrats will be hosting a Candidates / Issues Forum.

The Endorsement vote will take place following the Candidates Forum and will be limited to voting members of the 6th Ward Democrats. (Criteria for voting member eligibility can be found here.)
